Every life made by God is beautiful. Each person is an incredible masterpiece fashioned uniquely by him. No exceptions! “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27 NIV). When he finished creating the heavens, the earth, and us, he looked over everything and declared that it was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Although we've been morally corrupted by the fall of Adam and Eve, as well as our own choices, we are still his “very good” creation.
Throughout the centuries, people who have known God have understood this intrinsic human worth. Thousands of years after creation, King David praised God for it: “You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13,14). About four hundred years later, God spoke directly to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5). God didn't just create him, he created him with purpose.
The Apostle Paul recognized this when he wrote his letter (inspired by God) to the Ephesian Church. In Ephesians 2:10, he says that “we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Before we are even born, God plans altruistic assignments for each of us to fulfill. One of the reasons our lives can seem to lack significance is that we're missing the path, plan, and assignments God intends for us. Emptiness, boredom, and loneliness sometimes indicate a failure to fulfill his purposes for our lives. As King David proclaimed:
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:15,16)
How do we find God's path for us? We follow him. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me” (John 14:6). We find God and our path through Christ. We receive his payment of death on the cross for our sins, and ask him to take the lead. We commit to living life his way, not our own. This begins our journey with God. As we get to know him and his Word, and walk with him, he reveals our path and assignments. The more we trust, the further we go, and each life becomes a beautiful, rich story that could be written for no one else. Yours is waiting—don't miss it!
